Slugline example1/28/2024 ![]() It's a common cinematic technique, and VERY effective. In other words the sound precedes the image, and is therefore "split" prior to the sound and image syncing. In the television editorial world it used to be referred to as a split edit. I don't do it for every scene, but if I've got a big transition-like if I'm cutting to different characters or a new setting-I try to find some little detail in the the scene and cut to THAT using pre-slug action lines. So now we can visualize the first shot of the scene! It makes for such a nice transition, doesn't it? Ever since I started using pre-slug action lines, I've gotten producers commenting on how vivid my writing is. A few players have gathered behind the BACKSTOP.
